London is awash with flags and bunting. Its time to party. Arrivals at London Heathrow are greeted with Union Jacks, souvenir booklets and a chance to
write a message to the Queen. In Central London serious flags hang above Regent and Bond Street.
Over at Buckingham Palace preparations are in full gear. Roads leading up to the Palace are closed. Banks of stadium style seats surround the semi circle at the end of the mall. At the Changing of the Guard Thursday, the band played selections from Phantom of the Opera while mounted police went through their paces.
Prince Charles was out yesterday checking the Royal Barge for Sunday. Friday night he will give a tribute to his mother on BBC One, complete with previously unseen footage of royal family life.
Preparations continue. This is only the second time a British monarch has celebrated 60 years on the throne. Queen Victoria’s Jubilee was in 1897. The country partied. I have photographs of flags decorating my family home then. Now its time to party again. TTFN
