It was the spectacle of a lifetime. Rain was forecast. It did not make any difference. Over one million lined the banks of Old Father Thames. They came in twos, threes, in groups and in families. They camped out overnight in the rain to get the best spot. They brought Thermos flasks of hot tea, sandwiches picnics and coronation chicken. While they waited they sang, Land of Hope and Glory,(often) Its a Long Way to Tiperary, Pack up your Troubles in Your Old Kitbag, Knees Up Mother Brown and more.
Over one million spectators gathered to cheer on the flotilla of 1,000 of boats accompanying the Royal barge carrying Queen Elizabeth on her Diamond Jubilee ride to Tower Bridge. She was resplendant in white, many of the spectators wore red white and blue. Everyone had the time of their life. It was a day no one will forget. TTFN
